01 Attachment of New Dental College to Medical College

The attachment of New Dental College to Medical College to stop mushrooming of dental colleges & for better dental education across the country & to start post graduate course in Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery.

02 Internship Programme re-introduced

The Internship Programme was again re-introduced because the students where facing lots of problems in enhancing their clinical exposure without internship programme. For the benefits of the students, the Council re-introduced one year rotational internship programme with rural posting after completion of 4 years BDS Course. This was done on the basis of various representations received from students and other stakeholders.

03 Revised Dentists (Code of Ethics) Regulations, 2014

The Council implemented the Revised Dentists (Code of Ethics) Regulations, 2014 after approval of the Central Government. The major highlights of the Regulations are –

✓ The registered dental practitioner shall issue death certificates if a patient dies during the procedure.
✓ Every registered dental practitioner shall maintain the relevant records pertaining to his out-patients and in-patient and reserved for a minimum period of three years.
✓ Every registered dental practitioner shall display the registration number in all his/her prescriptions, certificates and money receipts given to his/her patients.
✓ Every registered dental practitioner should take care to prescribe and administer drugs in a responsible manner and ensure safe and rational use of drug.
✓ Every registered dental practitioner should ensure quality of treatment.
✓ Every registered dental practitioner is restrict/bound for Advertisement, Publicity and Signage.
✓ Registered dental practitioner may patent surgical instrument, appliances and medicine or Copyright applications, methods and procedures. However, it shall be unethical if the benefits of such patents or copyrights are not made available in situations where the interest of large population is involved.
✓ Registered dental practitioner shall not directly or indirectly, participate in or be a party to act of division, transference, assignment, subordination, rebating, splitting or refunding of any fee of medical, surgical or other treatment.
✓ Provision for unethical practices of a registered dental practitioner.
✓ Provision for punishment and disciplinary actions against the registered dental practitioner.

04 DCI MDS Course Regulations, 2017

The Government of India, Ministry of Health & Family Welfare has approved the Dental Council of India, Master of Dental Surgery Course Regulations, 2017 and it got notified in the official Extraordinary Gazette of India.

05 Insertion of new topic in the BDS Course

The Council introduced a new topic of Forensic Medicine & Forensic Odontology in the proposed BDS Course Regulations for the broaden knowledge of the students.

06 Review of Biomatric Machine System

The Council has reviewed the Biomatric Machine System which was installed in various dental colleges and makes the system more effective.

07 Verifications of the Satellite Centres

The Council has taking randomly verifications of the satellite centres having been established in the rural areas by the dental colleges for better rural health services.

08 Oral Health Awareness in Villages

The Council directed all the Dental Colleges in the country has to adopt 2-4 villages for Oral Health Awareness, if any tribal area falls within that vicinity then priority should be given to those areas.

09 Updation of DCI’s Website

The website of the Council has redesigned with updated informations of the day to day activity of the Council, Dental Colleges, Search Panel for Students, Faculty and Dentists etc.

10 CCTV Live Streaming of the Dental Colleges

The Council added new features to monitor the activities of the Dental Colleges in the Country through CCTV live streaming to maintain the standard of Dental Education in the Country and to ensure effective and transparent communication.

11 Online Transfer of Registration of the Dentists

has been started by the Council w.e.f. 01.10.2017.
